Tour of Utah

Richard and I both got to work the Tour of Utah bike race. It was a wonderful experience for both of us. Richard got to work with some of the best motorcycle officials, James Abbott, Splinter Wren, and Cindy Yorgason. I had a great time working with Kinnin Payson and Harry Lam. It was quite the adventure as we had to score a Sinclair Hot Spot , then work our way back through the race caravan, through the officials cars and through the racers. Sometimes, I just had to close my eyes.

The downtown Crit was exciting, the crowds lining the streets to watch the racing. Richard leading the cyclist through the finish line each lap. He said he could hear people cheering for him.
What a great night. Rachael on the stand listing to the race radio, getting pulled riders for us. Roberta, filling in the spreadsheet to do the math for the pulled riders. Kinnin and I trying to keep track of the front and back of the field each time around. Harry ringing the bell and moving the lap cards. WOW! What a night.

It was exciting to be at the top of Snowbird as the riders came in for the finish. I had pen in hand and stopwatch ready as the first rider came to the finish line, JEFF LOUDER! A local boy! It was all I could do not to cheer and clap for him.

The last day we were out at Larry H Miller Raceway in Tooele for the time trial. We were receiving updates about the speed of racers on the back stretch. We could watch them race all over the track. I was able to calculate the race times in my head to give to the announcers pretty quickly. It all came together for the local boy again as JEFF LOUDER was the overall winner, receiving a check for $13,500.oo America's toughest stage race was a great time for all
