OH NO!

Rachael and the rest of her Winter Guard group unfolded their floor to use it for the first time and found this



the paint had peeled off of the floor.  DISASTER!!!!!!  So after a little bit of debate about what needed to be done to fix the floor.  This is what we did.

down on our hands and knees peeling all of the WHITE paint off of the floor.  Next the white area of the floor got a light sanding and the painting began again.

We painted late on a Saturday night, we came in on Sunday evening and put a light coat of baby powder on the floor, hopefully that will help it to not stick when it is folded.  The Guard had practice on Monday morning, so they folded it after practice. 

HAPPY DAY - When the guard unfolded the floor the following Wednesday, the floor was GREAT!  No peeling paint! 

It was a lot of work, but worth it all in the end, to have the floor be painted and ready for the guard to use at their first show!

Part of having a daughter in the American Fork High School Winter Guard is the opportunity to help with things.

Like uniforms,

We finished 14 white feather pieces  and 13 black feather pieces for the tutu skirt.

then you let a bunch of people start painting

Even Rachael got in on the fun.

Then you move to the other gym and start on the 2nd floor, after the holes have been taped, the floor is moped. 

Then the painging begins, even Briggs, came by and helped.

It is a beautiful BLUE floor - the Independent Guard will use this one.

 

 

This floor will be used by Rachael's Guard - it is looking GREAT!

 

 

Winter Guard Evaluation Show

The first "SHOW" for Winter Guard was today.  They have an evaluation show, they bring judges in who give the Guard directors the good, the bad, and the ulgy about the show.  Since I am the guard photographer and Richard is one of the Band Dad's who helps to fold the floors, we get to be in the room when the girls do their show. 

Won't it be great when they have a painted floor, uniforms, and the right flags.  Two more weeks until the first real show.  I can hardly wait!

One last time to load the semi trailer full of the American Fork High School Marching Band stuff.  It is hard to believe that this was the last time we would do this for this season.  Once the kids all returned to the Hotel

we began the process of loading the semi trailer with all of their stuff for the trip home.  All of the uniforms, tubas, and drums, all of the Pit instruments, the drum major stands.  Somehow we have to fit it all in and somehow we do.

We are so thankful for this group of people who came on the trip and were able to help load and unload the semi every time it was needed over the last 6 days.  THANK YOU



And last of all - THANK YOU - to our daughter Jessica for joining us on this trip.  We are so glad that you and Rachael have been able to share memories of your experience of being a part of the AMERICAN FORK HIGH SCHOOL MARCHING BAND and COLOR GUARD.  I know that they are memories that you will always cherish.

2012 PASADENA TOURNAMENT OF ROSES PARADE

This is it, the reason we came on this trip.  To watch our daughter, Rachael and her American Fork High School Color Guard and Marching Band march up ORANGE GROVE, turn THE CORNER, and march down COLORADO BOULEVARD in the 2012 Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade. The parade route is 5 and 1/2 miles long.  We were just a few blocks from the start of the parade.  Our band was #81 of the 90 entries in the parade.  We had a parade program so were able to follow the program and keep track of which number was going past us on the parade route.  We had good people around us, who were there to see their child in their band.  So as the other bands came by, a parent would say their child's name and the whole group of peole wouls shout HELLO, and the child's name.  It was a lot of fun. 

We could hear our band's music before we could see them, so we all turned our heads and focused on the corner.   And then we could see this

A man sitting behind us who was here with the Wisconsin Badger Band used my video camera to film the band while they marched by.  Thank you very much, I am glad I was able to just enjoy them.

Rose Parade Floats, Horses, Bands, Digintaries

Watching the Rose Parade on TV is fun, but being there in person, is a whole different experience.  The excitement of the people around you, watching the tv cameras, seeing the floats, the bands, the cars, the horses all of it happening right in front of you.  This was an experience I will never forget. 

This building is the first one after THE CORNER, if you watched the Rose Parade on TV, you would have seen this building many times.  We sat just across the street  from it.

It is hard to see but this one had a swimming pool in it, and they created a wave and a dog rode a surfboard in the pool.

We are sitting only a few blocks into the parade, and already a float has broken down and needs to be towed.

If Pigs Could Fly . . .



The Rose Parade Committee made an exception to the LIVE things only on the floats, on this float honoriing Roy Rogers.  They are using Roy Roger's  horse, Trigger and dog, Bullett. 

This year would have been Roy Rogers 100th birthday.

And with a wave from this float, the parade was over.
